Maximize laboratory productivity with the Sakura Tissue-Tek Film® Automated Coverslipper (Model 4764) — an automated coverslipper engineered for fast, continuous coverslipping of biological specimens on standard 25 x 75 mm microscope slides.

Using Tissue-Tek Coverslipping Film instead of traditional glass coverslips and liquid mounting media, this system delivers clean, high-quality dried slides ready for microscopic examination in seconds. With a processing speed of up to 1,200 slides per hour, the Tissue-Tek SCA's unprecedented throughput remains unmatched for high-volume histology and pathology laboratories.

Key Features

  • Automated film coverslipper processes one slide every 3.0 seconds for continuous, rapid throughput

  • Uses Tissue-Tek Coverslipping Film — the fastest and only film designed specifically for this instrument — eliminating the need for glass coverslips and liquid mounting media

  • Microcomputer-controlled operation manages conveyor movement, film positioning, film cutting, and xylene dispensing

  • Preloaded basket system holds 20 slides per basket for seamless, continuous processing

  • Selectable film length settings (LONG: 55 mm or SHORT: 45 mm) to accommodate histology, hematology, and cytology specimens

  • Built-in safety features including door sensors, film detection, basket detection, conveyor jam alarm, and ejector misalignment protection

  • Adjustable xylene flow control for precise dispensing tailored to specimen type

  • Fast drying time — coverslipped slides are ready for microscopic examination almost immediately after processing

  • Integrated exhaust port for connection to a fume control unit or negative-pressure fume hood

Applications

  • Routine histology and surgical pathology slide coverslipping

  • Cytology specimen preparation including Pap smears and bronchial lavages

  • Hematology slide coverslipping

  • High-throughput laboratories requiring automated coverslipping to increase slides per hour

  • Workflow integration with slide stainers such as the Tissue-Tek Prisma and Tek Prisma Plus Stainer, microtomes, and microscope systems

Maintenance

Maintenance Notes

Proper maintenance keeps the Tissue-Tek SCA Coverslipper operating reliably and extends the life of key components. Follow the schedule below to minimize downtime and ensure consistent coverslipping quality.

Daily: Empty the waste bottle; clean the slide transfer chute with xylene to prevent residue buildup

Weekly: Inspect slide baskets for wear or stress

Monthly: Lubricate the cutter holder pin; empty the film scrap receiver

As needed: Refill and purge the xylene bottle when solvent is low or bubbles are detected

Every 10 rolls of film (~10,000 slides): Replace the cutter blade, or sooner if film cuts become ragged

End of day: Unthread the film from the instrument to prevent bending during periods of nonuse
